I think this might just take the cake for "creative" auctions.
-apologies if this item has already been discussed.

I like 8 string guitars, but not at that price! :whoa:

I seriously doubt that the Buddy Emmons story is true. There are people who aren't above forging his signature.

Interesting that they didn't post a picture of the front, where a LOGO might be.

I expect the B.E. claim is totally specious, but notwithstanding that it looks like it could be a fun little guitar for an A6 tuning or something like that.

Of course it would have to be about $1200 lower in price to get me really interested.

The signature looks like "Bully Emmons"!

Knowing that Buddy used to/wanted to be a boxer, maybe Bully Emmons is right.

But seriously folks, I have a photo that is autographed by Buddy about 2 feet from where I am now sitting. There are some similarities to this autograph, but not close enough to make me believe it.

He also has a Carter Starter up for sale at about a third of what he's asking for this mess. Obviously, he's trading very heavily on the autograph ... :aside:

i wouldn't think buddy would have been bothering to develop an 8 stringer in '84...even if he had time in that era. however....??

I have a couple of Buddy's signatures and this one isn't even close to what I have.

Maybe it was really signed by "Buddy Ebsen" and that would fit in with the Wizard Of Oz pricetag.

That's not Buddy's signature. He signed under my Sho-Bud S-12 when he played a Convention here in England. It's nothing like that on that guitar :D

Buddy Emmons building an 8-string, 4-pedal guitar???

Wouldn't that be sorta like Bill Gates building an Atari 2600?

It's also really kinda fraud as well. In this case it probably won't matter, since no self-respecting steel player would have any use for this guitar anyway ....

I'd pay $500 for it. I like 8 string pedal steels.

Like I said, no "self-respecting" steel player.

Just kidding, b0b! 8)

What, you don't like this? I find it quite "respectable". In fact, it's one of my favorite instruments. :)

I informed the seller that his guitar was "absolutely not" made by Buddy, and he promptly closed the auction. I think it was probably an honest mistake. He believed what he had been told. He's not a steel player.

Just curious...do we actually know for a fact Mr. Emmons didnt make this guitar?

Granted it seems highly unlikely, but did we get absolute confirmation from the Big E himself?

I can see a builder of fine race cars, cobbling a go cart from a lawnmower engine in his garage just for a laugh one day when he's bored or waiting for parts

Yes. The builder at this point is unknown. We only know that it wasn't Buddy Emmons.
