I received my Emmons Lefty P/P this weekend. It came with a storage stool. When I took the stool out of box it was heavy and made a clunking sound. I thought, no way, this stool has something in it. I opened it up and there was a Goodrich Volume Pedal, a Goodrich Super Sustain, Aluminum Polish, and some cables.

The guitar is stamped 1515 S so I take that to be a 1977. The knee that normally lowers the Es was set up for the 1st string and the 7th strings. I changed that over to the standard Emmons setup location, changed the strings and went to town.

I am on board with Bobbe Seymour about the tone of these guitars. It has something special about it thats difficult to put your finger on. Definitely some serious mojo in this guitar. Its even more blue than in this picture. I wonder what the name of this blue is?

I believe that is "Liberace" blue.

But seriously, I still regret not pulling the trigger on a "Bermuda" aqua-blue Carter that was Billy Carr had for sale at a great price a couple of years ago, due to doubts I had about the color, so I admire your courage.

Congratulations, too, on the bonus items in the treasure chest. Nice score!

I got to hear two different Emmons up close for the very first time this weekend at the Nor Cal jam, and while they were EQed very differently, both were superb sounding steels. Of course so was the sixties Sho Bud, the Fessy, the Excel, yada yada yada......but there was something unique to the Emmons sound. What a treat to hear so many PSGs in one room.

I hope this newbie excitement thing lasts for a while.

Matthew,
It is interesting to me that my S10 was made around the same time (serial # 1511) , yet is a fatback. Was this the point at which the design changed?

Richard,

Thats a beautiful guitar. Its only 3 numbers apart. Impossible to tell if they were sitting beside each other back in the 70's. I am not sure when the design changed.

Is yours a wood neck? You know they say these end plates could have been on the shelf for months and months before they were used.

Matthew,
The neck is wood. As built it only had two levers (on the right knee raising & lowering E's).

I expect the serial no would have been stamped after completion?

Well Richard all I can say is there is little doubt there is a guitar so beautiful in Oz!

I have got to get that lever that raises the E's on my guitar. Thats my only complaint. Once you discouver the beauty in that change you cannot live without it.

Have you recorded anything with that guitar?

I would love to hear the sound of it.
