Havn't seen these before, and he's (supposedly) playing the 2nd Fry-Pan made.

Hang on to your hair for this first one - www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQmdxtQZrjk

One of my favorites from Jerry - www.youtube.com/watch?v=1c8TYaq1yZk

Anyone know what year/place?

Quite a few newer vids of Jerry to enjoy, and be sure to check out what else - HalfMoon Steel - has up for viewing!

These belong in 'SotW' section, but deserved to be seen by those who may not venture there.

Ron,
Thanks for those two. Especially "I'll Be All Smiles Tonight" my all time lap steel/Dobro song!

The cool Sol Bright 'Hawaiian Cowboy' clip has the same background, in '86, but now can't see the banner behind Byrd.
But if it's Joliete, then it may have been similar settings every year.
No matter, it's the man and the music that counts!

Keoki,

Who are the players backing Jerry? Looks like Ian on the far right?

You are correct Derrick. That is Ian Ufton on guitar, J.P. Cote' on bass and Ken McClary on ukulele. The place was Winchester Indiana. The time seems like only yesterday.

Also on Youtube there is Billy Hew Len doing some great playing. Fantastic playing for the way he had to do it. I noticed it while listening to Jerry's tunes.

(The late) Kenny McClary was a 'sleeper' ... everyone admired his fine ukulele playing while very few of us realized he was darned good on steel also ! I still recall being surprised at hearing his sweet touch on the steel. Kenny was a very quiet chap who was always very willing to accompany any and all performing members on stage with his beautiful ukulele ability. Smile

Ron Simpson has all of the facts correct.

Jerry Byrd was the guest artist at the Aloha International Steel Guitar Convention in Winchester in 1993. I keep saying go to these Hawaiian steel guitar conventions. You have great performers who give you wonderful memories.

Jon-Pierre Cote' was a French Canadian who played steel, bass, and rhythm guitar. In the video he is playing bass. Of course Ian Ufton was from Toronto Canada and he plays steel, exquisite rhythm guitar, and bass guitar. Most people who hear Ian consider him one of the best rhythm guitarist.

Aloha Smile
Don
