I know that it is relatively easy to date Emmons' D-10's by their serial numbers and there is a listing for that. Is there a similar listing for S-10's, too, or do you have to look at the guitar's features and come up with, at best, an approximate year of manufacture? Finally, when did Emmons start to offer non-black mica finishes, such as rosewood? Thanks.

I really don't know but mine is # 1159 S and I believe it is from 1970.

I faxed the guitar's description to Emmons and they responded within a couple of days. Very nice lady. The guitar, serial #1345 S, was sent out of the factory in 1974.

My Emmons S10 was # 1423S and according to Mr. Lashley at Emmons it was made in Dec. of 1975.

Wow, those Emmons steels are simply stunning!

The serial # of my S 10 is 1202S. According to the numbers that have come in so far it looks like mine might be in the 1971-72 range. Keep those cards and letters coming.

The pattern seems to be, at least on this thread, the earliest is Nick's 1966,(1068), going up numerically to Jim's 1979,(1609). So Is Nick's #68 and Jim's #609?
Now mine being one of the last in 1983,(6750),could be #750. What do you think, would it seem to make sense?

Mark's observation is interesting. That is, S-10's were numbered sequentially by the last two or three digits of the serial number.

My refinished S10 4+4 is number 1352S (1974).




I only wish there was a split tuning facility on the P/Ps.

I used to own #1184. It was a fatback, cut tail/metal neck with 6 pedals, and auspiciously, 2 Sho~Bud-type "tear-drop" knee levers, mounted RKL and RKR. I bought it used, in 1976. Shortly after that I called Emmons Guitar Company. Ron Sr. had no record of that serial number only 1183 and 1184....

Me thinks someone was singing: "I got it one piece at a time, and didn't cost me a dime...."

Anyway, with the fatback, cut tail design, I think it was a 1970 guitar.

I just bought a black Emmons S 10 bolt on, 3 pedals, 4 knees in beautiful condition, from a great player and super nice guy in Ft. Worth. It was restored to factory specs by Charlie Ward in 1994. Shipped from factory with a sticker not a badge. I found a post on this forum indicating the year of an S 10 that was 30 numbers higher than mine was definitively a 1966.

Would love to know when this guitar left the factory.
