I saw this site by my newspaper computer guru. It will check out your computer and tell you anything that's in it, on it, how old you are and what color shirt you are wearing.
Well maybe not the last two, but check it out. It is interesting. If you or someone wants to know what you have, this place will tell you.

Belarc Advisor is great stuff. I wish they didn't charge so much for their commercial version. I like one called PC Wizard as well...and I really like DameWare NT Utilities.
There is a pretty good built-in one called msinfo32.exe that you can run in "Start > Run..." or cmd, etc. |

I've been using the Belarc Advisor for several years. It will profile both your hardware and software and also list the Product Key's for some software.
It's good to periodically run it and then print it out. If you ever have to reinstall and have lost a product key, if you are lucky the Belarc Advisor will have it listed. |

OK..
Once Belarc does it's thing and establishes a profile, how and where do you locate this info.
On their website in FAQ there seems to be some confusion about this; somewhere in the browser?
I want to do this, OK, but I also want to be able to retrieve the data.
Can I use Firefox instead of IE?
I haven't DWNL or INSTL it yet.
Thanks all...

When Belarc runs it runs in a "new tab" in I.E.7 (my default browser). You can then print the results and/or save the file (Click on File then Save As). It doesn't automatically save the results on your PC. |

I'm using version 7.2v which I've had for a long time. It creates a file called your_computer_name.bci in C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor You can put a shortcut to this file on your desktop - it will open with your browser. It gets overwritten whenever you run Advisor.
I use IE7 so I don't know about Firefox |
