...seeking information on Buddy Merrill's CD, Beyond the Reef, the 1992 release.
Is it a re-release of the recording of the same title from 1970?

What steel guitar is he playing __ Fender __ Emmons?

Many thanks, Rick

I have a cassette of of him, but don't know the date of the stuff. Good player. The tape I have has a definite trebly StringMaster sound. (too much for my taste actually) But he did a great job on the Hawaiian tunes on this tape.

Bill, the recording you mention with the Stringmaster/trebly sound could be his Fender 1000. I beleive he played one for awhile.

not taking anything away from Buddy however if you have the Lawrence Welk hawaiian album the lead steel was played by Bernie Kaai and Buddy played backup steel.

Rick the lp is on Dot and is titled Songs of the Islands. Buddy is given all the credit but Bernie revealed in an interview that he played all the lead with Buddy 2nd steel.I doubt that Buddy could have cut these songs at that time. See your email. cc
