The new exotica excursion led by Jim Bacchi has Gary on steel guitar.
Their site - www.tikiyakiorchestra.com

Here's a clip from their recently completed first gig - www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CGvePqLcr4 - look for other clips from them on YT.

Tell us about it Gary!

...this isn't Gary, but I played with Tikiyaki Orchestra during Hukilau in Fort Lauderdale for the Friday night show on June 13. Jim said that Gary doesn't really like going on the road much anymore, and a few months before, had asked me if I'd play the steel parts with them. It was a total blast.

I had to use a volume pedal and lots of reverb for the swells, and I normally don't use either one, but for this music, it's required, and sounds great.

Here's a pic of the show next to the pool at the Bahia Cabana in Fort Lauderdale. Yes, the jackets were HOT in the Florida humidity!

...hmmm, I asked Jim and he told me it was Gary at the outdoor day gig in the 2 YT vids.

However, if we now have 2 steelers hanging with the TO, then SUPERB! I told him the steeler needed more time in the music, and he agreed, so we'll see...

Thanx for the correction/update/info and pic, Todd. Keep us up on what's happening!

Hey Ron -- what Jim told you was accurate. That IS Gary Brandin in the YT vids. Those were done at an outdoor gig Tiki Farm in SoCal last April. That was TO's first live job.

The pic above is me playing with TO at Hukilau in June in Fort Lauderdale (a few weeks ago). They had me play steel, because Gary didn't want to travel to Florida for that gig.

There are a few tunes that do have a lot more steel in them. Some don't have any, though... Sad

This is a very fun gig! We are playin' this friday at the 'Kono' in Surfside CA.

Thanks Todd for doin' the Florida gig. Hopefully you could be the outta town guy.

If you go to my myspace page you can hear "Sneaky Tiki", a song from the CD.

Thanx for the link to your MS page, Gary.
That Sneaky Tiki was the ticket!
At first I had it playing with Truck Drivin' Man and it sounded pretty cool. But they sound great on their own. You're a favorite. Keep up the fine work!

Gary -- my pleasure. I'd love to be the steel guy with those guys on out of town stuff, if they want me to. Oh yeah, they're all great guys, too, and a lot of fun.

Gary's right -- it's a fun gig. For me it's a chance to do that reverb drenched, volume swell stuff that I don't normally do. Learning Gary's solo break on Sneaky Tiki was fun, too, although, I found myself wanting that G string on top (I use an E on top in C6). It's a fun tune.
