I did and it sucks!! Those judges whoever they are wouldn't know country if they heard it. It really %67^%$ me off when they tell a very sweet and talented Country sounding singer that if they can't sing rock or whatever junk they ask them to sing and really put their hearts in and make it sound like the crap they want to hear that they can't and won't make it as a Country singer. Thats Bull Crap. Oh yes, and what did you think of that great Nashville Disco act they had come in near the end. To me , that is the end of Country Music. What has to be done to seperate that style of music from what is the real Country Music that people have known for a life time. I remember getting ino my car starting it up and jumping on to my local Country radio station. Uh- Uh no more . I don't even turn it on anymore. They still call it a Country station but as far as I'm concerned, NO WAY. If Opra is still Opra, Jazz is still Jazz,Bluegrass is still Bluegrass,on and on and on why in hell can't they find a new name for this junk and keep the name COUNTRY OUT OF IT. What they should do is have America's Got Talent and Nashville Star and switch program names so they can get some real idiots to perform for them. At least I think the talent would be in line with the expertice of the judges and the Nashville Gurus.If If you think I have a bad attitude please let me know. I have a lot of respect for our fellow Forumites.

As long as Rich from "Big and Rich" is a judge, I won't watch it. He don't have the talent to judge anybody IMHO.

Take object x and market it towards market y.

They are looking for raw meat that can be moulded and sold as a hamburger. They are not looking for artists. If you notice with all these "talent" shows, you see the same hairstyles, shirt styles, singing styles etc country or not..

I hear the same complaints about punk, hip-hop etc. Large labels take a style started by someone else, from someone elses culture (urban, country etc), and water it down to sell to the masses. The end product is a pale imitation of the original "non-marketable" style being copied.

Its like jack in the box making a Cajun sandwich. They are not capable of making a real Cajun anything,,as they are not from the culture itself. At best they can only make a cheap imitation to sell to people who dont understand the culture to begin with, but will buy it "because they like Cajun food.".

I watched a bit last night and was amazed that they had people singing the flash dance song and Girls just want to have fun, in a country manner. That in itself is pointless and ridiculous. Why not do have them sing Opera with a fake southern accent? that would sound great!

They had the Navy guy getting yelled at for not sounding country enough,,well why is he a contender? Hes not a country singer so why force it? He joined the Navy and doesnt like it,,so now he wants to be called a country singer when he dresses like a boy bandster and doesnt sing country songs or even try to have country soul? more bad decisions, next hell want to be a pilot and say he hates airplanes.

The theme last night was, "Pop Goes Country"! I think the Navy guy needs to go. The guy that got knocked off, did the best improvement.

They knew who was gone, so why did they let them sing and call in and then knock them off.

It needs to be done like American Idol! CRAZY!

Then when you go to change it you see its on the country station.

Owen,I agree with you 110 percent,I tried to watch that &*^% a couple of times,Switched over to Leave It to Beaver reruns,The TV is as bad as FM radio,you can channel surf and don't know if you are watching GAC[great American crap]CMT,BET,OR VH1,The ONLY place on cable TV you will see some REAL country music,is if you can get the RFD NETWORK.DYKBC,

I watched Nashville Star last night, and my favorite contestant so far is Ashlee Hewitt. Also, I have a friend who is doin' the correspondent duties-Katie Cook, who is the host of CMT Insider.

Started watching it somewhere in the middle. About the time they were looking to "countrify" "Love Shack" by the B-52's, I threw up and went to bed...

I still say music, be it singing or playing an instrument, is an art, not a sport. (contests are for horses).
My wife and I were in Nashville on Holidays last week to hear and see the Timejumpers and go to Bobbe Seymore's store.
( I got there early and got to sit about three and a half feet away from Paul Franklin. What a humbling experience!)
We bought over 300 dollars worth of CD's at Ernest Tubb's record shop and a bunch more at Bobbe Seymore's place. None of it was top forty.

The way I see it, top forty is a spectator sport geared to young fashion-following women who are more interested in what the guys look like.

(I think the older woment go along with it cause they think it makes them look and feel younger if they go along with the younger womens' opinions)

But hey, what do I know. I think I'll go and listen to my Donny Young CD with the great Jimmy Day playing steel.

I tried, but I didn't last long... the first song was an ensemble production number of Madonna's "Like a Prayer"; heavy synthesizers, bass and drums, they didn't even make an attempt to pretend it was a country song - on "Nashville Star."

At the time the song was released, it came under heavy fire because of the burning crosses, the black Jesus, and the rape scene in the video, and the obvious equating of oral sex with spiritual release.

There are two groups of teenage girl singers on the show (3 + 2), and to a certain degree their success on "Nashville Star" is now predicated on their ability to "sell" a paean to performing fellatio - ick. There's already something creepy about the kiddie-porn packaging of the teen duo "Laura & Sophie", they had them dressed up in little-girl ballerina dresses and even called them the "cupcakes." I'm not a prude, or particularly spiritual, but even I had to bail on this trash. Maybe if the music was better....

Gee, you wouldn't think that someone is purposely trying to destroy country music? No, couldn't be. Its all controlled and its on purpose. Anyone who participates in that kind of trash has no morals.

Hi Bret. I agree with you on Ashlee Hewett. I personally think that she's one of the best TRUE COUNTRY singers that has ever appeared on that show. Only problem is that SHE IS A COUNTRY SINGER and that's what's gonna' take her out of the race before too long. She displayed a true country soul and if I read her attitude right the other night she's not gonna' let them take that away from her. I would sure hate to see her change her style for those jerks.
