| Has anyone played or owned a Blue Stem lap steel made by Randy Cordle? They look very well made on his web site and the MP3 examples sound good to my ear? |

I've got the one he used to use as an example of his design philosophy. I'd probably have a couple more if he took Paypal.  I keep looking at the ones he's got available. They are very nice guitars.

| I have an 8 string ordered. I haven't seen or heard one except on his site. I just like the looks and especially the tone of his guitars. He is making the scale , string spacing etc., almost exactly like my Remington. |

I picked up a split single coil 6 string from Randy for Christmas this year. It's beautiful looking, well made and most importantly great sounding instrument. As I understand it this was a test bed for the split signal coil and so the body sized\ was a little narrower then his regular bodies but I'm comfortable with it. The smaller size also lets it fit in a Gretsch lapsteel gig bag ($29 at ZZounds).
Randy's prices are also pretty hard to beat.

I have one of Randy's 6-strings in birdseye maple,
and I'm very happy with it, even though I can't play
worth crap. It has the P-90 pickup and what I consider great tone and sustain. The workmanship
can't be beaten in this price range. Randy is also very pleasant and helpful to deal with.  |

| Is he using a guitar pickup or a lap steel pickup? The guitar pickups are too narrow of a string spacing for me and anyone that likes traditional lap steels. They look clean and well made. |

Gary, the P-90 on my Bluestem measures 3/8" center to center on the pole pieces. Since it's on a lap steel guitar, I'll call it a lap steel guitar pickup. BTW, the string spacing at the pickup on my Sierra lap steel has 1/64" wider spacing. My right hand can't tell the difference between the two guitars.

| I got my 8 string a few days ago. Very nice guitar for the money. Mine has the split coil PU and has a very nice tone. It took about 6 weeks to get it but it was worth the wait. |
