There is a great new video of David Lindley live at Garberville Theater on youtube.com, I don't know how to post a link, but just go to youtube & search for David Lindley, his plays weissenborn & sings "Her Mind Is Gone.

Tim, thanks for posting that clip...I wish more DL clips would surface, I love watching them...I noticed Lindley is still using the 2 Ultrasound amps on stage, you can see them to the right of the screen next to his vocal monitor...& what kind of weiss is that he is playing?<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Terry VunCannon on 03 October 2006 at 11:58 AM.]</p></FONT>

I have some VCR tape of Lindley from a late night David Sanborn hosted show. He did a solo piece and played with the house band also backed up Curtis Mayfield! Very nice. I'll try to see if I can get it posted.

I like the one of him and Jackson Browne doing a new acoustic version of a medly of "Stay" and "Love is Strange" w/ him on acoustic lap steel /and/ singing falsetto.

Great clip, but what's his tuning? It's not standard dobro tuning is it? Sounds like he has a low D string in there. If someone knows what the tuning is please post it.

Thanks-

It's almost certainly open D tuning:

1. D
2. A
3. F#
4. D
5. A
6. D

But I'm sure you could write to Mr. Dave and ask him directly. http://www.davidlindley.com/contact.html

Howdy Michael.
Did you get an answer on this. I have done a bit of work on it and I think we are certainly in the Key of G.
Tuning Maybe someting like this. I am not claiming 100% accuracy and would welcome further enlightenment.
1.D
2.B
3.G
4.D
5.G
6.D

Intro chords for this tuning on the Dobro( I dont yet have a Weiss) are.
F-E-D; C-Bb-C;
Then to Bb(does some hammers,pulloffs, flibbly-de-gooks etc)
Bb-A-Bb-C-D.
For the intro run down, stick mostly to the bottom 4 strings.
At 1.07 into the vid where he starts the first solo, slides up to 12th Fret, dominantly on strings 2,3&4.
Then to strings 3,4,5 on frets 9-10,10-9-10,
9-10-9-7.
Sometimes when the song goes to the D Chord,
I hold the 2 String down behind the bar so it doesnt sound with the chord, gives a closer sound to what Mr D plays.IMHO
Thanks Terry & Tim for bringing this one up.

Any one else got a slant(opps sorry, looks like straight bar & tips only ) on this song.
Would be good to get to the bottom of this so would ya please chime in & help set the record straight.
Pete

If it's in G, it's in G.

So: open C shape, dropped down to G for his baritone guitar, i.e. GDGDGB (low to high).

-Travis

P.S. Unless it's his seven-string, in which case there would be a high D.

Yeah Thats it Travis.Thank You

Same notes different config

I could hear that High B in the verses and could only get it with my tuning by tipping the bar on the second string at the 12th fret.
And I started to retune the top two strings but could tell it wasnt gonna happen before I was gonna bust something.

You got it. Thanks

Pete
