I've been working on this tune and was curious who did the session steel work in '65.
Anyone ever do a steel version of this classic? |

I don't remember hearing any steel on the original recording, though perhaps I missed it. There have been several steel versions come out in recent years. Tommy Dodd does a lovely version, and I also have a reasonable facsimile of the song on my CD, "Cohen Goin' Country". |

I'll try and get both versions!
There is steel in the single, but it's subtle for the most part, 'cept for a noticable chimed gliss that is a big part of the song, and there are a few vids on youtube that include steel but they don't mirror the single for the steel parts. |

Ron, you can get a taste of my version at this link:

I also sell a rhythm track for the song (with the entire CD), if you'd like to work up your own version. |

Larry; I'm in agreement with you on Pete Drake being on Skeeters version of the song recorded in 63.
Jim; Just took a listen to the samples of some of the songs on your new " CD ".. Some really fine pickin', brother. I'll be buying the CD some time soon.. Theresa; You are right; we all surely miss Mr. steel Guitar himself; in my book, was one of the best things that ever happened in or out of Nashville's music scene.
Bill: glad to hear you and Tony are going to do Skeeter's song on U-Tube, in the near future. Tony is another of our great steel guitarists here on the forum; I love that Beautiful 'BLUE " Marlin of his, especially with TONY sitting behind the guitar. A fantastic player, indeed.. Thanks for letting us know, Bill; looking forward to hearing you both; let us know when; O.K?..
