For those of us who are just starting to use Vista, Wiz just helped me to resolve an issue with an enlongated screen, or a screen where your pictures and even text appear to be stretched (for widescreens). The remedy for me on this, and this is pertaining to anyone reinstalling Vista, is to remember to load the utility and drivers disk (and everything on it) that comes with Vista after you reinstall the OS. Once I did this, everything was to the proper ratio and proportion.

Improper installation of ANY operating system can cause many problems. Wrong screen resolution is just one of many potential problems.

On PC's that use the Intel chipsets, the correct install sequence is (1) Install Windows (Vista)) (2) Install the Intel Chipset drivers (3) Install device drivers such as the sound and video (4) Install any other needed device drivers. The Installation of the chipset drivers is very critical for proper operation of devices either on the motherboard or attached to the motherboard and is the most often omitted step we find on the Dell users forum.
