Got a call from my old friend Bobby Hines from the Denver area. He asked if I ever had problems with finger picks slipping off. I said, sure, sometimes it depends on the humidity and if everything is dry, so is your skin on your fingers.
Well, he said his solution was to spray hair spray on the inside of the picks next to your fingers.
Bobby is also a piano tuner and he said many piano players do not like freshly cleaned slick keys and Hair Spray can eliminate the slickness.

I don't care what you say, if you got Duct tape and hairspray, you rule the world. I used to spray hair spray on fly's to watch them drop.

I will try spraying on the inside of my picks.

That's what my good buddy Bobby Bowman uses. I don't know if he has a special brand that he prefers, but it seems to work for him.

It also helps to wear your picks as much as possible when your not playing - like on the way to a gig or reading the Steel Guitar Forum. It also cuts down on warm up time.

Hi Robert Kramer! This subject comes up a lot, The very simplest way is to carry a small chunk of fiddle rosin & scrape a little on the inside edge of your picks, It moistens up a little & sticks your picks to your warm fingers! This has worked for me, better than all the things I have tried for over 20 years!

Try taking a small piece of shrink-rap, slip them over the top of the picks. Boil a small amount of water, and drop them in. Remove and run under cold water...Problem solved..and cuticles no longer sore...Ahhhhhh...the simple things...

I've had this problem for many years.I finally parted with the cash and bought a set of Perfect Touch picks. Problem solved and the most comfortable pick I have ever used. Well worth the money.

Just my opinion,I have tried a lot of things for this problem,The BEST thing I have found[use it every day] is the moist resin [brand name] Gorilla Snot,A small container will last a loooong time, cost about five bucks, just use a little[very little] on your thumb and fingers, your picks WILL NOT slip or fall off.this stuff WORKS.DYKBC.

Mickey....Are you supposed to leave the picks on your fingers when you are boiling them?

IMHO, a better method is to run your finger through a beautiful womans hairs prayed hair and lett he electricity of the moment cause the picks to stick to your finger. However, this may not work. Sorry guys couldn't resist

Lick your fingers before you put your picks on. Simple. Effective. Don't have to carry anything extra around. And it gives women ideas.

I lightly bead blasted the inside of mine, no problem, spit, or rosin. Be careful, too much pressure will flatten them.

Go to wal mart, get a small bottle of gun blue. With a cotton swab, apply some to the inside of the pick that raps around the finger. It leaves a tarnish like finish on it. they will not slip and last forever. Its not as glamorus as Gorrilla snot but it does work very well.

I keep one of these in my seat and rub my fingers in it before I put my picks on.

Spray fingers with hair spray. Let dry. Lick lightly before putting picks on and they will stay. After a break just lick fingers again and they hold again. It will work all night. Or day.

I have used xtra hold hair spray for years and works fine . I just spray small amount on the first knuckles to my finger tips and let it begin to dry and then just put the picks on. this saves any excess spray from getting on the picking surface of the picks.

That hair spray makes a gooey mess doesn't it? - I like Mickey's idea -But I put shrink tube over the wraparound ends of mine ,hit em' with the heat gun . . . actually I thought that was pretty cool when they got hooked on a string, and went slingshotting off my finger into the atmosphere !

I second CrowBear's motion. Andy Hinton coats his finger picks with rubbery stuff. They're comfortable and stay one. They're my new favs.

I've said it before, lightly rub you finger tips on the inside of a banana peel, put picks on, and they'll never come off.

I'd like to chime in with a few things I've used over the years. I try to keep my fingers out of my mouth all I can due to germs.

One way is to get a can of that plasti-dip stuff you dip tool handles in. You'll need to lightly sand both sides of the part that goes around your finger and then dip just that part in the plasi-dip stuff and then let dry. I think I had mine hanging by a wire so they didn't rest on a surface till they were dry. The drawback to this treatment was that after a while the plastic stuff ended up coming off. The second way is what I still use today, I lightly sand the inside and outside of the band and then coat both inside and out with about 3-4 coats of fingernail polish. This works for me.

What ever works for each person,I'm sure is best for them.I'm just to lazy I guess, for spitting, grinding, coating, painting,Takes about ten seconds to put a little [very little] of the old gorilla snot on my fingers, then I KNOW my picks ARE gonna stay on my fingers.DYKBC.
