| Playing my Session 400,around a 1975-76, early one... all of sudden I smell burn and see smoke, fuse didn't blow, but now it has no volume and hums big time..any ideas?? filter caps??? thanks in advance..Bob |

Most likely a shorted diode in the power supply or filter cap. It hard to guess what has burned. I wouldn't turn it back on. This is a + and - supply and the output transistors would not like to see AC or only one side of the power supply. You don't want a shorted power transistor.
It time to see a amp doctor. This amp is all solid state and not easy if you are not an electronic type.
You could take it out of the cabinet and do a visual inspection of the power supply and look for a burned part or burns on the circuit board. That would be the place to start. Then you could use your ohm meter and test each diode for shorts then the caps.
The best choice would be to send it to Peavey. They have a quick turn around and are very reasonable on repair charges. You can send just the chassis, they won't need the cabinet or speaker.

| Bob, mine farted and stopped working. I emailed Mike Brown, sent the chassis back to Peavey. For about $125 they returned in about a week in better than new condition. |

I'd also say send it to Peavey.
Their turn around time is longer than usual as I just waited 6 weeks to get my Nashville 112 fixed and all it needed was a loose wire from the transformer connected.
They were good about my emails and explained they are backed up with repairs. |

If you have a big hum all the time:
you do not have a shorted diode (it would blow a fuse)
You could and likely have a bad filter cap or a power transistor on its way out.
I will be here until July 24th and then out for a month. If you can get it here soon I will gitter done! |
