Listen to my sweet friend Cina Samuelsson at http://www.cinasamuelson.com/download.html
It's all a family affair - her husband plays guitar and fiddle in her band The Springhill Boys, her brother Berra Karlsson plays steel (Emmons pp) and friends plays the other instruments, all at hobby level.
Not too bad, huh - or what do you think? |

Good stuff. It's a nice blend of traditional and modern elements. Good playing, good singing, good song.
If more songs like that were broadcast in the US there would probably be much less complaining here about modern country music.
I should also add that I am continuously impressed in general by the country music being created in Scandanavia. |

Thanks, Buddy!
This is good for Cina's self confidence.
Both traditional and modern country music is BIG in Sweden, I'm happy to say. The number of festivals is steadily growing, and the biggest one, in Furuvik 1½ hrs by car from Falun where I live, http://www.furuvik.se/country-festivalen/countryfestivalen.aspx gathers several thousands of listeners each year. (Lloyd Green himself had a steel seminar there when he was here backing several US singers som years ago.) |

That's hobby level? Sounds pro to me, good job all around. I wouldn't mind having a CD of them done in that same vein. |

Yeah, they are good hobby musicians, no doubt, and good enough to become pros if there was a market big enough for their music over here. We are only 9 million inhabitants in the entire Sweden, and we are scattered all over this sparsly populated country. A big city with a large group of country music fans would be necessary for Cina to make a singing career possible.
Tommy: We e-mailed each others some years ago, I remember, but I don't remember what it was about any longer (Alzheimer light, you know ). There are litterally thousands of Jan Larsson over here - it's a very common name - so I might know who he is even though I can't tell right now.
Nice to hear that you're impressed by Cina's music, anyway. |

Hobby level? They're all at professional level. Soon they will be playing all of the festivals and on all of the indie and alternative sites. _________________ Steel crazy after all these years.

Yes all elements are pro sounding.
Very nice.

Now that's a telling statement. It's one reason why I like this. I wish country would get back to this. I find myself listening to country radio less and less, and the same goes for Austin City Limits.
But Pavarotti, Carrera, and Domingo are on tv right now, so all is not lost. _________________ Steel crazy after all these years.

Yeah - pure country music is popular here in Sweden, and that means that steel has a front placement in the mix. That usually baffles US country artists who perform at the annual Furuvik Country Festival http://www.furuvik.se/country-festivalen/countryfestivalen.aspx and elsewere.
Lots of Nashville country is heavily diluted with lots of pop and some rock (probably because that's assumed to sell better than pure country), but be sure to load up with lots of steel and other pure country sounds if you ever perform over here as a country act. Elevator muzak might sell better over all but'll not bring down the house over here.
Generally I would guess that lots of americans would appreciate a date with the swedish taste in music.
