What's a 15" Black Widow sound like in these amps? I remember seeing someones equipment list at the bottom of one of their postings with this set-up!....

They sound great in it. A 1501-4 that is. |

IMHO, the 1501 SB or DT sound great in anything.
To me they are the best.
Period.
But the Eminence speaker in the Steel King sounds good too.
I don't understand how people say that the FSK "craps out" on them with the stock speaker.
Must be hitting some awful loud lows on C6th.
I would line out to the PA before I would distort my speaker.
If you have to play that loud to be heard, then I would either:
(A) Line out to the PA.
or
(B) Pull my equipment and go, as the sound guy is obviously clueless.
No way I would rattle my speaker for some 100.00 gig.
Can't buy a new speaker for 100.00 anyway.
IMHO. |

I cant get over how much better I like mine with the 1501 4 sb in it.
Less shrill,,more pronounce lows,,better carrying power on stage..I love the difference it made. _________________ GFI D10, Fender Steel King, Hilton Vpedal,BoBro, National D dobro, Marrs RGS |

I would have to agree with Steve. I put a BW 1501-4 in mine due to a lot of comments from the Forum. The stock speaker is a good speaker, but had some high end schrillness to it, and overall an edge to it. Steve describes the 1501-4 just right.
As far as the FSK goes, I've had it about 18 mos. and with the BW Speaker, a Line 6 Echo Park Delay, I'm really starting to like it a bunch. Takes a little dialing in, but when I get it right, it sounds damn good! Good utility amp.
We'll see after my '64 Twin is done in rehab.
Oh Yea, the BW 1501-4 is 4 lbs. lighter than the Eminence! _________________ Zumsteel 12 Universal

So how easy is it to install the BW? Drill new holes or use existing ones and just swap? |

Dick,
All of the holes match perfectly. Pull one out, pop the other in. Only thing you'll have to do differently is attaching the speaker wires. The 1501 has the spring loaded connectors and the FSK speaker has solder terminals. I don't remember is the FSK leads had slide-on connectors or not. If they do, just cut them off, slip the leads into the 1501 connectors and you're good to go. |

I didn't want to cut off the slide on connectors, so I got some spades, attached a nice thick piece of copper wire(1.5"L) to the spades, spades into the connectors on FSK and stuck the wire in the spring loaded connector on the BW Speaker. Good to go! Maybe 30 minutes. _________________ Zumsteel 12 Universal

Thats a great question curt, because i play only C6th, and my low C string is a .74 composite wound GeorgeL's stainless. And i have never had my Fender stock speaker "Crap Out" on me yet. Now, i will be putting a Peavey1501 SB NEO in, but thats for the weight only. I am more then happy with my stock Steelking speaker. I just about fried my little Nashville 112, i put a BW 1201-4 in it, i think that is the speaker number, anyway i think i got the speaker from Fred not sure. |

my stock speaker crapped out as in broke, blew, bit the dust. Any speaker is susceptible to that, but since I didnt like the tone,,I switched to the peavey. which I like _________________ GFI D10, Fender Steel King, Hilton Vpedal,BoBro, National D dobro, Marrs RGS |
