By it having a closed back, it was probably a small bass amp. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

I can't identify that cabinet
as "original" Fender.
Fender dropped the tail logo
in 1976, there were a couple
of versions without the tail.
Notice the angled tolex cuts on
the top front of the cab.
Fender would not do that.
I don't think Fender used
corners on the top of combo
cabs back then. Usually when
you see those angled tolex cuts
along with corners, the tolex
is wrapped around the cab and
not the standard 4 pc application.
The handle is a newer style
with four screws.
I see chassis bolt holes on the
top of the cab that are not
in the right location for
regular Fender amp.
I can't tell if the baffle
cleats are dadoed into the sides.
The grillcloth doesn't look
very old and I can't tell if the
sides are tapered.
My guess is if its not an
old Deluxe Rev cab that was reworked
with newer tolex and grillcloth
to handle a solid state head for
a bass amp amp of some kind,
then its a home made cab.
Just my opinions.

That's an an empty combo cabinet from the Fender Sidekick series in the mid 80s, a solid state Japanese run of amps that varied in quality. I had a Sidekick Bass 60 for a short while and it was a fun little amp. It had the same closed-back style with the recessed top. Your cab looks like the regular Sidekick 50, as pictured here:

Looks like your guess was
better than mine.
It does have a angled cuts
on the tolex. It was a wrapped
tolex job too. I guess I'm
partly right

Guys , Thanks for the input. A Friend of mine found this thing at a yard sale for next to nothing . The speaker in sounds pretty good. I will probably wind up trading it for something I can use. again thanks .. Best regards Neil. |
