There's a recurring riff in "Dear Mr. Fantasy by Steve Winwood...I can do it on guitar, but can't seem replicate on pedal steel with the hammerons and bends.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Gordy

The low riff that you play on the bottom two strings of the guitar?

If that's what you are referring to you need a 12 string to get the low A and E notes. Either U12 or Extended E9 will work fine but a standard 10 string E9 goes no lower than the B at the 2nd fret of the 5th string on a six string guitar.

Or are you talking about another lick?

Larry...

Yes, that's the one. Starts on a low E, hammer on the 3rd, hit the A string, bend the C on the A string, repeat, and hit the A chord.

I just can't find those notes on E9...

Guess I know why, now.

Thanks.

Try it an octave higher than the guitar.
Open 8th,
Hammer on 3rd fret, then play the 7th st @ 3rd fret
Then the 6th string @ 3rd fret with the B pedal
etc,

That's why I've never been able to relate to 10 string E9. I'M A GUITAR PLAYER. I'm used to 'low guitar E' and really feel limited without it.

I can play that lick (with the low string hammer and bend/slur sound on the next higher string) exactly like Winwood plays it. It's on the 11th and 10th strings of the E9/B6 U12 tuning.

(dude, get a 12 string)
Very Happy
