Breaking out the stash....

I'm dedicating one of the slots on my
Myspace music player to rare recordings and 78s from my collection and the collections of friends. I have tons and will be changing them every couple of days, so please bookmark if you like it.
Right now (may take a little while to process), I'm featuring
Joaquin Murphy on the Jimmie Widener cut, "There's A New Day Tomorrow", from a King 78. Joaquin's phrasing is fine and fluid as you'd expect, and his tone is sublime. He has to be the greatest one chorus soloist in steel guitar history, at least in my book.
Hope you enjoy! Man, I've got to do a podcast.

Sounds cool Mike! I'm glad there's guys like you and several others on this Forum that take the time to share all this great music with others who might otherwise never get to hear this stuff.

MIKE.....what a fine program on your site.
Great steel playing and extremely fine accompaniment and vocals. Seldom do we musicians get to hear someone we can truly admire. Your playing is tops and Gerald Ross on lead guitar is equally as such. Do you all live in the east?

Mike, great idea, I'll look forward to this. That's a great description of Murphey-- every ride was a thrill with that guy. C'mon wit da King Benny too...

uh Mike... what did you put in my drink when I was in NYC? I don't remember playing lead on any of your recordings??
I do remember sitting in with a hot Czechoslovakian zither player at some club on Flatbush Avenue and something about a blonde wearing a beret in Chinatown...
But recording with you... I'm drawing a blank.

Where exactly is the Murphy tune in your space? Been there a couple of times and don't see it.

Finally, the tune has appeared. It's a Jimmie Widener cut "There's A New Day Tomorrow" (King 536A) featuring Joaquin Murphy on steel and he really plays some beautifully phrased stuff. His tone is particularly good on this cut.

Ray, Gerald is an excellent musician, no doubt about it, but that's me playing lead guitar on that track. We are based in New York City.
