I'm wondering if having this knee lever is worth it? I don't seem yo get much out of it. Give me your thoughts on this. Maybe there are some moves I'm just not bright enough to find. |

I couldn't be without it - I dont use the 10th string lower as much as the 5th - Great move to lower the 5th string (with no pedals) and it changes the chord into a nice 2 chord - Also try this for an ending chord - Key of D - play strings 5 & 8 at the 3rd fret with 5th string lowered and release it as you lower the 8th string _________________ Ron Petersen |

I use this change quite a bit, however I lower both twice on separate pedals......1st pedal drops both one whole step and left vertical drops half step. Granted I use the 5th string lower more than the 10th. HAL _________________ HAL...Excel D-10 w/ 8 & 5. Hal are you saying your A pedal drops a whole tone or did you mean your A pedal raises the string a whole. If you mean raise then I know what you mean. I know that if I lower my 6th string a whole with the 5th lower you get a pretty 2nd chord. I like this on a song like Missing YOU by Webb Pierce. |

I use the 5th string 1/2 step lower constantly but have unhooked the 10th string lower.
Some things that lower can give you:
A pedals down minor chord with a split between the A pedal.
A series of whole steps on 5 strings in a row.
The 3rd of the dom 7th whole step down with no pedals.
That tricky change in the "Together Again" solo.
Its a fun one ! _________________ Bob |

This change is on my RKL, split with the A pedal, and I've got so many uses for this I couldn't imagine playing without it. It's like an extremely useful swiss army knife of musical possibilities. Granted, all I do is decipher other player's songs, but it seems to come in handy more often than not. |

I use it quite a bit, but usually don't lower the 10th string - both on E9 and universal. I use it on the knee opposite the E-Eb lever - I prefer it on a side-acting lever, but if the guitar has E-Eb on the RKL, I normally put it on LKV because there are other things I want to do with LKR.
If you look up X lever using the search function, you'll find quite a bit of discussion about how to use it. A couple of threads to start you out:

This lever is especially useful if you can accurately split the change with the A pedal. |

I started out using it on the verticle many years ago. I found so many uses for it that I moved it to the right knee moving left. The more you use it, the more uses you will find for it. _________________ Larry Petree, Bakersfield Ca. |

Lower 5 & 10 1/2 tone on LKV mostly for licks rather than chords. It used to be on RKL and it was great over there as some of the guys have stated, but I had to compromise a bit to get all the changes I wanted so....
I also lower both strings a whole tone on a floor pedal and use that along with a lever lowering 6th string a whole tone for the Franklin type licks.
I know guys that go lower a half and a whole tone on the same LKV with a feel stop, but that hasn't worked for me so far....still experimenting tho. |

Well guys you made remember just how much I use it. I do just about every thing with it that I'm seeing here. I usally alwas do the B pedal down slide thing on Together Again but if you're down the neck in key of C well the lever is the answer.
I'm getting a new Steel and was thinking of leaving it off,,Guess not !!!! |

Don't underestimate the power of strings 5 and 8 together with all of the associated changes.
the 5th string has 3 scale notes available, Raise natural and lower, the 8th string has 3 scale notes available raise, natural and lower.
String 10 also has 3 scale notes available.
get to know these pulls, they can become your best friend.
If you have the whole tone drops( Franklin Ped) you have 4 scale notes available on 5 and 10. |
