I posted this question under electronics as well as here. I have a number of 8-string non-pedal steels. I would like to hook a Roland synth up to one of these guitars. I did a search and found that this topic was discussed a couple of years ago with reference to the Roland GK-2 and 2A. Now that Roland has come out with the GK-3, I am wondering whether anyone has looked at this for their non-pedal steel? |

I haven't seen anybody messing around with lap steel and Roland pickups in a long time. Last time I tried the results were not that good. Perhaps with a better quality pickup/synth combination, it will work better.
I would guess that you'll only be able to get this to work with a six string lap steel. Roland specifically says it is not supported for pedal steel or "guitars with non standard string layouts".

Forget Roland. Find yourself an Axon by Terratech. It tracks considerbaly more accurately and just works better all around.
They offer a wireless option as well. |

Thank you Brad and AJ for your imput. I looked up the Axon. It does appear to be a better system. AJ, what guitar do you use yours own? I heard the Roland used on an electric guitar a week ago. Does the Axon system have the same quality of sounds? |

No matter what pickup you go with, you will still need a pitch to MIDI interface such as a Roland GI-20. |
