He is in CA and difficult to contact. He does not do the internet.

I always liked his approach to steel guitar and especially his Hawaiian L.P. "Beyond The Reef" on Accent records, of years ago. This was done while he toured to Hawaii with The Lawrence Welk Show. I believe you can purchase it on CD now too.

In the early eighties while I still lived in SoCal, I was working a club six nights a week called the DJ Ranch in north Long Beach. Our Sunday afternoon and Monday night band was Danny Michaels & the Rebel Playboys who always featured a top notch steel player.

Buddy worked the DJ with Danny awhile so I'd go in early on Sunday evenings to catch some of their set. One Sunday Buddy played a beautiful instrumental of an old pop tune called "Once in a While". At break time I commented to him how much I liked the way he played that tune and I'd like to work it up myself. He called me over to the bandstand and showed me which pedals and grips to use and was very friendly and helpful. He's a great all 'round musician and one of the best orchestra guitarists in the business... I believe he was only 16 or 17 years old when he started with Lawrence Welk........JH in Va.

I've been fortunate to have lived near and gigged with Buddy every so often for the last 15 years or so when I lived in Riverside County, SoCal. I usually played bass, but I did get to do a few twin steel/guitar jobs with him, which was like sitting at the feet of the master. I havn't heard from him for a couple years since I've moved to the San Diego area, and I'm a little hesitant to just call him out of the blue...he is a very private man....but maybe I can find out something through the local grapevine. He's a great guy and one heck of a deep musician who loves the steel guitar! In fact I've never seem him take anything but a steel gig, even though his guitar playing is so great!

If I find out anything, I'll report back.
