I have a Peavey Rhythm Master 400 which has a pre amp in and a power/out, all done with a stereo jack cord. I use it for pedal steel and keyboards. It has a 15in Black Widow but the sound is not great for steel. Would a black box be sufficient or do I need the Tonic? Thanks

A Black Box will not make a bad sounding amp sound good. It will make whatever you have sound better. You need a preamp (the Tonic---the BB is not a Preamp) if your PV is not working for you. You may need to experiment with your cords---I looked up the manual for your amp last time you posted about the patch points and found the stereo in/out config confusing but I am sure it can be done.
What you need is tone shaping/voicing for steel and presumably that amp's pre is just not voiced right and needs to be replaced/bypassed with a pre of your choosing.

Thanks so much, Jon, for your information and for looking up the manual. It's either get the Tonic or a Nashville1000 or a Fender Steel King, I guess. Playing outside I need some power cause we don't mike anything. Thanks again!!

Lots of good choices, but the Tonic is gonna be
a great unit for sure.
I have a BB and a Rev pre. and both are great.

I am sure the Tonic with reverb will be
a chip off the old (mono) block. Very Happy

I have the Rev and the BB and I am always finding new usable tones with both these devices.
