I had a chance to see The Happy Goodman Family in person back in the early 70s in Bluefield West Virginia and I remember this man playing pedal steel with them at that time but can't remember his name but I do remember Howard saying that their steel player was his son-in-law. Is it Jack Smith? http://youtube.com/watch?v=JlrxI2S753M&feature=related

Yep, that's Jack, and he did a great job even then. He was one of my earliest influences, although I still can't even come close to his level even back then.

I read several years ago that Rusty had been a really good lap steel player when he was younger. He was a Jerry Byrd pretege'. I don't know if he ever played pedals or not.
