After years of traveling the world playing steel guitar, including recording and playing with artists such as Genoa Keawe, Kealoha Kalama, Richard Ho`opi`i, Peter Ahia and others, Herb has released his first solo album entitled HE KANAKA MAOLI

Herbert Hanawahine has an old Hawaiian style of playing which has endeared him to hearts of people living in Hawaii as well as those in other parts of the world who love Hawaiian music.

The songs on this album, He Kanaka Maoli are:

Tiari No Tahiti
Papalina Lahilahi
Whispering Lullaby
O Ko`u Aloha Ia `Oe+My Waikiki Girl
Old Plantation
Kealoha O Kaua+Haunani
How'd Ya Do!
Ua Like No A Like+South Sea Island Magic
Whispering Sea
Hula Breeze
Maile Lau Li`ili`i (live)

Herbert is a master at harmonics. He particularly amazed Jerry Byrd with his harmonics in Whispering Lullaby.

He plays Moana Chimes doing Hawaiian vamps that causes even the most distinguished steel player to take notice. He recorded that on HAWAIIAN STEEL ALBUM produced by Greg Sardinha

You are certainly correct about Herb Don. He seems to one of the last great old style steel players, and his album is one that all who love real Hawaiian music should have.

Right on about Herbert Hanawahine.

Bill Leff looks pretty happy! I sure would be.

Don,
Will you be attending the Hawaiian show on Friday 9-1 at the St. Louis Steel Convention. I want to start playing Hawaiian music and would love to meet some of you guys who play professionally. Looking forward to seeing Sharon Denny & Marjorie Mays. Linda Reed

The place that you do this is at the HSGA convention in Joliet, October 12-14.

The other place is the Aloha Internation Steel Guitar convention in Winchester, Indiana, the first Thursday after July 4th

You could come to the HSGA biennial convention in Waikiki. Hawaiian Steel guitar players from all over the world. Get your husband to give you an Hawaiian vacation.

Now to the reasons for the above suggestions. There are just more persons that play the Hawaiian style of steel guitar and there are some that play the real old Hawaiian style at these conventions.

You will get greater variations of Hawaiian steel playing and I would suggest a greater appreciation of the variations of steel playing also.

Come on over an see us.

Aloha,
Don

When I did my first post about Herbert's CD, I did not know the cost.

Herb's CD is $13.00 which includes shipping.

This will be an important part of a collection of Hawaiian steel guitar artists who play the old style.

You will not be disappointed.

Aloha,
Don

That old amp in the picture, the old National, is mine, and the best amp I have, which includes about seven others. There is something about some old tube amps that can't be described.
Herb's CD is a must-have, and for those who haven't heard him, you are in for a treat.
