Just wanted to say hello, I am a new steeler. I have been playing a Carter for about A year now. I love playnig my steel. Still working on chimes, and turn a rounds as well as cross picking. Any help would be really nice. I have been playing a six string guitar for 30 years, but the steel is where I have found my calling. Also looking to upgrade on amp and instrument any comments would be great. Anyways, looking forword to being apart of the Forum. Thanks

What kind of gear are you using now? Is your Carter a "starter" or a pro model? What kind of amp and pedal do you have?

Are you studying with a teacher, or learning on your own? Your background of many years of guitar playing will speed the process up because you already know a lot of chord theory and how to begin finding melodies and harmony notes.

HEY Forum friends I am learning with a carter starter and craig amp with 2-12 inch speakers. I am real comfortable with the fret board, root chords minors and 7ths. I Need help with melodies and chimes as well as finger speed. I dont have a tracher other than Mickey Adams and you guest it Dave Hartley on the U tube. And Bless those guys for helping starters like me. I would really be lost.

I am also from texas....an old guitar player, but fairly new to the steel world...mostly lap and dobro for now........this whole steel/slide world is wonderful and I got lot to learn.

You will get a lot of information from this site. Great people and more than ready to help. Great instruction courses are available from the Steel Guitar Forum.
Since you're out at Medina you might want to contact Don Pack at Dell View Music Studio and take some lessons. I've been taking from Dons studio for a year from a great teacher named Denny Mathis. Call them if you are interested, a good teacher can get more across in a half hour than many hours of books, thats not saying the books aren't great because they are. I've learned a great deal from the instruction material but there is nothing like having that one on one instruction with a great teacher. Have a good time with you Starter, and don't get disappointed if you don't think you sound like you should. Besides playing a psg is enjoyable, relaxing, and frustrating all at the same time. At least thats the way I look at it, and some of the finest people you will ever meet play the steel guitar...jr

Welcome to this forum.. I am glad you have found my videos a help with your steel playing.. They'll be a couple going on this week as I am off work at the moment..First one being... 'Hinges on the Door'.. (Connie Smith), in the style of Amber Digby.. The backing track is done and on the multi-tracker, I have just got to move some of these steel guitars out of the way so I can set up mine! Keith and Victor,!!!

Keith is bringing his new Rains (that arrived 3 days ago) around so I will give that a test out I think..
