Roy did not like pedals and to my knowledge never owned a Pedal Steel Guitar. When I worked for Roy he would always complain about the "guys at the Opry and the pedal steels".
Roy had developed his own style and he had no need for pedals with his tuning and style. |

I have an old live recording of a radio show out of Nashville that has "Little Roy" and Benny Martin on it. Benny sings "Ice Cold Love" as one of his songs on the show and calls "Little Roy's" name out as the steel player. Guess what he is playing pedals. I asked him about that many years later and Roy told me "yes I did play pedals on that but I didn't do it much after that. I know he was happier with a non pedal guitar. Bobby |

In the early 70's when I worked for Roy at his music store, he was the Emmons dealer for Nashville but he would never demonstrate one of them. He would get either Bob Browning or me to demo one if it was needed. |

The guitar kinda looks like a Sho-Bud because I think it's got Sho-Bud fretboards.

Yes, that's a Domland Stereo, and an early one from the looks of it. I have some brochures from about 1965, and I believe that guitar is pictured in one. Yes, the fretboards have been swapped, but other than that, it looks in pretty good shape. Those early ones had a Fender-type cable setup. Later, perhaps late '60s or early '70s, they went to a rodded design. I've only seen a couple in real life...beautiful guitars, heavy beasts, though. Partially made and distributed by Don Edwards of "Guitar City" in Colorado, I'd guess less than 50 were made. |
