Does anyone know about these or play one? It's a very good price for an eight string. I wondered about the scale and pickup. And how they sound and play. Come to think of it, maybe I should just ask Bobbe, but sometimes he's pretty busy and doesn't get around to his emails.

If you are refering to the two at the bottom of the page they look pretty nice! You can't beat that price. That eight string looks real good. The Morrells are beginner models. The SuperSlides are from what I have seen on the forum are the best.
The best deal on the page is the GeorgeBoards.
That is a killer steel. I know, I own one.

Thanks Gary. I can't justify spending much money on a lap now, since I've spent several K$ on gear in the last year, that's why I'm trying to go cheaper. I don't think Bobbe would sell any junk, I'm mainly concerned about the scale. It looks like a Sho Bud fret board, so I assume it's a longer scale. I'll call tomorrow, and probably just order it if I don't get any negative comments here.

Bobbe will take care of you. I can't tell the scale from the picture either.
Good luck! Let us know what you think after you get it.

I talked to Bobbe this morning. The scale is 24 inch, I had some misgivings about that but I ordered it anyway. I'll tell you how it is when it gets here. I thought about the Dynalap, but I waited too long and it sold.

I got the steel yesterday, after some problems with FedEx, where I had to drive 45 miles each way to pick it up when I paid to have it delivered to my house, that's the second time that's happened.
Before I ordered it I talked to Bobbe, he was honest about it, said it had good parts and some not as good, like the finish. I'm happy for the price. The fourth string was not nearly as loud as the rest, so I put a 22 plain on it and that helped. What do you all use on the fourth string "G"? If you're on a tight budget this is a good deal. If you're going to gig with it you may want something nicer.

Howard, I am interested in those lap steels. How does the 8 string sound? Does anyone know how the six string sounds?
I have the Artisian in Black and one in Blue.
Hope you have fun with your new steel.

Dave, it's a big step up from the Artisan. It sounds pretty good, probably will sound better when I put some Jagwires on it. I played it through my Steel King and did not change the settings after playing my Mullen. It definately does not sound as good as the Mullen, but pretty good.

Howard ask Bobby about the 10 string Sho_bud model on the bottom of the page. I sure would like to have that one. it is a natural finish. Looks like a nice one. |
