Do any of you musicians out there use fingers instead of picks? Avantages/Disadvantages?.Does any one know of any recordings of players using fingers only?

Mike,

Here are some previous threads on this topic:

I play both with and without fingerpicks, depending on what sound I'm after. The three tunes on my MySpace page are all played with different "set up": "Alfama" is played without any picks, "The Ring" is played with picks and "Telegram för Lucidor" is played with Fingertone picks.

Cheers,

Fred.

My preference would be for picks.
1. Greater dynamic range (The main reason)
2. Pick blocking
3.Most of the legends use picks

I think that the trend towards no picks is motivated by impatience, more so than a search for that elusive "Tone".

In my experience picks are necessary to bring out the 'presence' needed to cut through when playing with others, especially on acoustic instruments. When playing alone it's much easier to get by without them though..

I have no problem using picks. I have used them to play guitar and dobro for years. But on steel, after playing with picks for year or so, I switched to no picks. I like the sound and tone better and I think pick blocking is much cleaner, plus I like the feel of the strings beneath my fingers.
