A few months after this album by Lucinda Williams came out every one on the internet was raving about how good it was. Alt Country/Americanna is one of my favorite genres so I bought the CD. I think it is one of the best albums that has been produced in years.
What are some other albums that have grabbed your attention like this one did me?

Oh, there're a lot of them, though Car Wheels surely is a masterpiece.

John Prine - Souvenirs
Iris Dement - Infamous Angel
Calexico - Feast of wire
Richard Buckner - since
16 Horsepower - Secret South
Whiskeytown - Stranger's almanac

there so much great music out there...

Well, that Lucinda Williams album is one of a kind, IMHO.

Last year or so, No Depression magazine had a list of the top Americana albums over the past 10 years... but I can't seem to find that list on the web. If memory serves, "Car Wheels" was in the top ten, and possibly in the #2 slot. Son Volt's "Trace" was #1.

I did find this list on Hickorywind.org. It looks pretty good, based on the albums I've heard.

1. Stranger's Alamanac by Whiskeytown
2. Anodyne by Uncle Tupelo
3. Bill Monroe Anthology
4. GP/Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons
5. Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams
6. Trace by Son Volt
7. Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
8. Will the Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
9. Live in Texas by Lyle Lovett
10. Alison Krauss & Union State Live

Those are some pretty good lists. I think the best two Bluegrass albums are Will the Circle Be Unbroken and Emmylou Harris' "Roses in the Snow".

Check out Kathleen Edwards. I love her first two records. Also, "Rainy Day Music" by the Jayhawks has to be one of the best in the last ten years.
