Peter Cooper will do a CD release show for his "Mission Door" album at the Station Inn in Nashville on March 21, starting at 9pm. The show will also feature Fayssoux McLean (some might remember her as a former back-up singer for Emmylou Harris, under the name Fayssoux Starling as she was married to John Starling at the time) who also releases her new album in April. Both albums feature Lloyd and so it is only natural that he will be a featured part of the show, playing live.
Cover charge is $10, the albums will be on special sale at the venue: two for $20.
The Mission Door album has had a long incubation period, but steel players will find it worth the wait. This one and Fayssoux's are being released on Red Beet Records (www.redbeetrecords.com). The album was created by giving Lloyd guitar-vocals and letting him create parts over several weeks. Lloyd co-produced it, and it also features Nanci Griffith, Todd Snider, Dave Roe, Bill Lloyd and other big-time singers and players. It's not really a "country" album, but it has more steel on it than most "country" albums you'll hear this decade.
Peter also will be playing songs from the album and chatting about it from 8-10 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, on the Eddie Stubbs show on WSM-AM 650.
More details about the album are available at www.petercoopermusic.com and also at www.myspace.com/petercoopermusic.
The only sad thing about it: I am about 7,000 miles away and can't be there...
Kind Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com |

Maybe the show should be bootlegged for posterity — not to compete with album sales, but to supplement, enhance, and promote the fine music. And, so Walter can hear the show. |

Can anyone give me some advice on shows at Station Inn? I'd hate to drive up from Atlanta only to be turned away because we arrived late for a sold out show, or some other wrinkle.
Thanks in advance, Mike |

If I were coming that far I would get there by 8 or so to be sure, shows do sell out there sometimes and this one's getting a lot of attention (and not just among steel players).
Lloyd also played with Peter last week at the Vanderbilt music school recital hall, it was some amazing music... |

I got there late last night but I really enjoyed what I heard. Lloyd was in fine form as always as well as everyone else on the show. I didn't get to hear Emmylou but was shocked when Peter Cooper called up Kim Carnes to help him on a song. If you missed it you missed a great show. _________________ Zumsteel steel guitars, Telonics and Peavey amplifiers, GHS strings. |

You missed me also Sweeney , I had to leave at 10:30 P.M.
It was a great show, and "MR. NASHVILLE SOUND" was at the top of HIS game as usual.
BTW Mike, The show was "sold out". If I had not left early, you may not have gotten a seat. |

Walter,
Thanks for sharing word of this show. We took Pete's advice, got to the Station Inn early and found some fantastic seats.
Before making the trip up, I knew seeing Lloyd would be a special treat, but the rest of the folks far exceeded my expectations. It was indeed quite a show.
Getting back into pedal steel (and this forum) after being away for 30 years, I'm a beginner again. But from what I've heard, I think the "Mission Door" CD will be quite nice for practice and study. It may not be mainstream, commercial or flashy, but every bit it tasteful and not a note is buried in the mix.
Thanks, Mike |
