I believe my 1954 Dual Professional has gone microphonic on me. If I strum the neck that isn't activated I can still faintly hear it through the amp, and tapping the body seems to pick up quite loudly.

Have I only just now noticed this, or is my guitar microphonic? If so, is there a way to fix this that doesn't involve PU rewinding?

Thanks, CS

Waxing the pickup usually helps.

This "vibrasonic phenomenon" ... associated with "over the strings pickup units" ... is simply Faraday's Law in action ...

Because you have a "two part" magnetic circuit ... separated by an airspace ...

Knocking, thumping, strumming adjacent necks, etc ... is going to disturb the magnetic field ... which will induce current in the coil .. regardless of how well the coil is potted.

The stronger the magnetic field ... the more pronounced this effect.

If you want to tame it abit ... "gasket" the unit ...

IE ... put the rubber gasket (just a thin film of 100% silicon) .. between the bottom "yolk plate" of the trap unit itself ... and it's chromed steel mounting plate ...

When you tighten up the two mounting screws/nuts ... be careful .. too much torque ... and you'll rip that screw right off the top "yolk" plate.

A common phenomenon ... one that characterizes these types of pups ...
