Anyone care to recommend the best lubricant / oil for the tuning keys on a Stringmaster?
Thanks! |

Here's a quote by Jody Carver from another thread and he's the Fender expert around here.

Try using a lightweight oil such as sewing machine oil or maybe a very lightweight "gun oil" that would do the trick,,,you would not use too much just a drop will do it,,,,the gun oil is very light and used on the mechanism of rifles etc,,,,,, |

Very clean indeed!
I don't know about tuners, but when I received my chromatic Hohner, they sent Astro Glide to lubricate the slide. |

Howard...
maybe 'cause it's "non toxic" lube, to put on a "mouth organ"... I wouldn't want a tongue full of 3 in 1 oil...

So I dug through that cabinet in the back of the laundry room and found an old can of 3 in 1. The oil in the can was older than the oil in the tuning keys! Picked up a new can and it worked great. Thanks for the 411

Any lubricant works great for a while, Jim. Bacon grease in the crankcase of your car works great for a while.
3 in 1 oil is thin, runs off and dissipates. Grease hugs the gears and won't run.
Thin oil is for higher motion moving parts. And, it needs to be re-applied often.

I've always had good luck with the white
lithium grease on gears. Stays in place. |
