Topic: Is my Fender blend control broken? |

I just bought this fender single 8 with blend control under the bridge cover. The blend knob seems to affect the tone, but it turns more than 360 degrees - in fact I have found no stop in turning it. Shouldn't it have stops at each extreme like a volume or tone control knob?

Hi Dale, here's how the blend control works. The bridge pickup stays on all the time so when you turn the blend control it blends in more or less of the neck pickup and I'm not sure at exactly how many turns, but it should come to a stop. |

It sounds like the stop is broken. It should have a stopping point. |

It's a cheap fix. Just replace the pot, or have a guitar repair shop replace it. It's a 250k pot.

Thanks to all. I think I understand that the little knob should turn less than 360 degrees, right?
Also, I didn't mention this in the original post, but it makes little clicking noise as I turn it - like it has detents that keep it from inadvertantly turning. Is that normal too? |

Try tightening the screw at the top It may just be loose.

See if the knobs turns, but the pot stops. If the pot stops and the knob keeps turning, pull the knob off and gently spread the two pieces of the pot, so the knob will fit more snugly. You'll find you won't adust this control much, after you find the sound you like, my experience anyway. Good luck.

Excellent advice!! Per the last two posts I took a closer look. The knob does turn on the shaft. By pressing down on the knob I was able to turn to a stop on the left and right. And got definite big variation in the tone of the guitar. It seems to be working. Now I see what they are talking about re. the value of this control.
Tomorrow I will try tightening the knob. But just knowing it works is a big relief.
This forum is great. Thanks again to all of you. |

You can easily spread the shaft by first slipping the knob off of the shaft and then press the end of a straight screw~driver down into the slot and push gently. this shoould spread the two halves enough to snug up the Knob. Just don't press hard enough to snap half of the shaft off from spreading it too far! Then just replace the knarwled (sp) knob.

Websters says "Knurled Knob" is the correct spelling. |

All fixed now. Gave both halves of the shaft a very gentle bend with the screwdriver tip. It is working fine.
What a great forum! Thanks again. |
