I have tried two new HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One printers and am having problems in that they are very very slow to respond to the print command and now the second one shows me two windows saying not an authentic inker, etc etc even though I have installed several new hp cartridges. HP has sent me all kinds of reboot --this and that--nothing helps. Question--What new type printer gets along with Vista Premium--I like HP products for tech man's preference but I guess I'm open minded. Maybe a newer model hp ?? any help appreciated. Thanks, Bill Myrick |

Bill, I'm using an Epson RX700 all in one on my Vista desktop (and the desktop servers as the printer server for a laptop). The Epson works without problems.
But the HP should work OK too, as long as you have Vista specific drivers (do not attempt to use the XP drivers are they are incompatible).
I don't know what drivers you are using, but the Vista 32 operating system drivers are HERE I notice there are a couple of updates to the drivers listed too.
How you install a device can determine if it will work or work correctly. The correct way is to run the install program and ONLY when the install program tells you then physically connect the unit to the PC. If you connect the unit first either the install will fail or Windows (Vista) can install incorrect drivers.
As far as the ink cartridge problem, that is not a Vista issue - it's strictly an HP issue. But, for what it's worth, both Lexmark's and Dell's (Lexmark makes Dell's) have a lot of problems with ink cartridge errors - "wrong cartridge", "no cartridge installed", "incorrect ink level", etc. If you look for a new Vista compatible unit, I strongly suggest you do not consider Lexmark or Dell.
Finally, how fast a device, such as a printer, responds after you click "print" can be affected by both the software (drivers and Operating system) the size of the buffer in the printer, and PC hardware. My Epson takes as much time (time lag) to print in Vista has it did in XP so it's not a "Vista issue". |

Hi Bill: I'm using the HP PSC 1610 All-in-One and it works fine with vista . .. . not the fastest horse on the track but an all-in one will never out run a dedicated printer. I did download the latest printer driver for this unit before using it.
If you have not done so (sounds like you have) download the latest printer driver. Be SURE to Uninstall any old ones BEFORE installing the new one. Many times if an old drive is still on your system the new one will not "take".
Let me know if that helps.
