Thanks Mick, I had E9 tab for Sleepy Lagoon several years ago, but it's not in my current book, 60 Popular Melodies. I no longer have copies of the tab, or even the master, sorry.

Wolfgang, I know you asked for E9th tab, but this MAY be of some help as it includes the middle section that most singers leave out.. :-

------------------------------------------------------------

The middle is in this version :- Sleepy Lagoon Click Here

This is NOT the version as tabbed because it's played on a "Pedal" guitar.

Ooops I think I put my foot in it !!

I do believe there are Nightingales and Roses in Hawaii, and so does Jack Lawrence the AMERICAN lyricist who wrote the words.

The story told by Jack Lawrence (the Lyricist)

In the meantime, listen to this version and TRY to count 3/4 :- Doris Day

Alfred without the middle

Here's a link to a discussion on the song, and somewhere are the lyrics..

That one worked. I'm really surprised by the story of the origins of the song. I would never have guessed it. Do you have a recording of the classical version as originally written without words ?

There's more to the story, originally entitled "Midnight in Wolverhampton" dedicated to his wife, Eric wrote it after an evening out together.
Here are many versions including Eric conducting the London Symphony orchestra himself.

Eric Coates and the London Symphony Orchestra

Alfred's FIRST Version

Alfred Apaka's Last Version

Bert Kaemphert

Cynthia Read/Felix Mendelssohn

Doris Day Slow Foxtrot!

Eddi Calvert

Tommy Dorsey

Ken Ufton

Myself, but what guitar ?

ALL played in the original key, except for Tommy Dorsey (Bb) and Cynthia Read (F)

I forgot to include the all important lyrics ..
The lyrics are on the second part of this page :-

Of special interest is the middle section "Stand still oh Heaven and Earth" etc. To my knowledge the middle section has never been used on a vocal version. WHY ?

Yikes ! I graduated from Wolverhampton Polytechnic with a degree in Economics in 1969. My memories of Wolverhampton, in comparison to my memories of lying on the beach in Waikiki, boggle in the brain. I can't imagine anything less likely to conjure up visions of a Sleepy Lagoon than Wolverhampton...

That having been said, I listened to every version of Sleepy Lagoon you have on your website. First of all, I don't like any of the versions played on brass. Of the remaining, I have to say that the Basil Henriques version is the most pleasant to listen to, seconded by the Doris Day version.

Of course, there are thousands of other versions out there.... :D

(but don't look for the Alan Brookes version. The world isn't ready for that yet.... 8) )

...and I always thought the words were:-

"A sleepy lagoon, a tropical moon, and Basil in Ireland..."
