I just got done mixing the new Spanish Steel (that might not be the eventual title) CD. I did it at Skip Saylor Studios in Reseda. Here's a link.

This was expensive, but worth it. I got far better results than I could have, had I done it at home. (I did very little, The engineer did all the work.)

This is a real studio to the stars. Some of Skip's other clients include Aretha Franklin, Dwight Yoakham, Michael Jackson, Elton John and Santana. I figured if he was good enough for those guys, he's certainly good enough for me.

After hearing the magic he did with my mixes I understand why those people use him. I couldn't be more please with the mixes.

Next week it's on to the mastering lab.

Larry, IF I do another one, the title track will be Rhapsody in Blue, and the rest of the material will be musically related to that.

But I'm thinking that it's time for me to concentrate on live performance, and promoting the CD's I've already recorded. I'm doubtful that I can do that and still do another massive project like this.

Besides, these CDs take around 6 or 7 years to make, and I'm now 62 years old. I'm reluctant to start another one at this age.

Still, I may do it anyway. I really would like to do a CD based on the Rhapsody. And I have a transcription (courtesy of our fellow forumite John McGann) of a great piece written by jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd (No relation to Jerry as far as I know) and a photocopy of an original composition by André Previn, both of which would perfectly compliment Gershwin's masterpiece.
