Here she is. I bought it from Ryan G. back in Novemeber and had it sent to Jeff Surrat to have a nick repaired and two knee levers installed. The narrow wrist pad was my idea. Jeff did a really nice job on it and he's a heckuva nice guy to boot.

In his opinion it's hardly been played.

My bad! You can see the half stops in the close up. Is this clean enough? Smile

The wood underneath is beautiful too! No need for flock or paint on that baby! Looks like Jeff did some good work. I'm totally unfamiliar with that bracket thing that some of the rods are passing through. It's not on any of my Shobuds. Is it made of steel, or felt or somethin'?

I'm not sure Jeff needed to clean up the underneath. Like I said, it was hardly played.

The bracket appears to be plastic. I'm wondering if it's someting Duane came up with or one of Jeff's ideas or if they even had anything to do with it. I know he disassmebled the whole thing before he had it repaired. I'll ask Jeff when I speak with him.

Interesting! If the rods touch it at all, it will be something that should be lubed every once in a while.

Just spoke with Jeff. Apparently it's a sho~bud thing they tried for a while. Jeff said he's seen a gang of them.

Same as I've got on my 12 string. It was pointed out to me that it is the top plate of a pickup! I hadn't seen that at all until it was mentioned and on close inspection, sure enough. And think about it--the pole piece spacing of a pickup will approximate the string spacing and hence the rod spacing so voila. I see no need for lube. It is a loose fit, just to keep rods form wandering & rattling.

Nice guitar there. I remember when Ryan was selling it and I thought that finish was stellar.

The rods are a loose fit in that bracket. As long as they're not riding on it in playing position, no lube would be needed. But if they do, some lube will prevent wear.

The guitar looks great, RC. I'd like to see a shot of AJ's work to that blemish on the rear, though I suppose the pad must conceal it some, which is good.
I do miss walking into my practice room to be greeted by it's beautiful woodgrain and finish. That one definitely spent extra time on the buffing wheel!

That 'rod guide' was on the guitar when I got it - another example of Sho-Bud trying out new stuff all the time, I suppose. It also had a super sounding pickup, and it was interesting to note a high end character that was distinct from my roundfront.

I figure I am a nut for letting Ol' Wine go, but I got spoiled by barrels and two hole pullers on my old blonde 'Bud. If I do not know regret now, I surely will once I see that one when Ricky is done with it. Laughing

Hi Ryan,

Been a long wait but I'm happy she's finally home. The repair turned out pretty good and is further hidden by the pad. I'll post pics so you can see.

This bud's hardly ever been played and has no issues so unless I come into some uneeded cash, the Davis thing isn't in thr foreseeable future.

RC, you are right - your guitar is perfect the way it is. The other guitar I mentioned was in need of some TLC.
