I've been having a lot of trouble viewing video's on YouTube. Every now and then I can get one to work, with no ryhme or reason. I click on links people post, and the majority of the time they don't work. Then, without reason, I'll click one and it works. Strange huh?
When it doesn't work, the YouTube page shows up, the title of the song, everything else, except the video player.
It's driving me nuts trying to figure this out.
Anybody else? Any ideas?
Thanks. _________________ Steeless. |

Are you on a dial up or hi speed?
Even on high speed, sometimes the video's are very slow to load.
YouTube is a huge site and when millions of people are logged on, it slows down.

Bill - I'm on the Verizon FiOS fiber optic system - super fast. I've seen the slow loading thing before, even more so when on Cable Modem service. With the current problem, the video screen for the particular video doesn't even show up, just a blank white area under the title, and "Done" appears in the lower left hand corner of the browser. Nothing ever happens after that. Otherwise, the YouTube page loads perfectly, including comments on the video, other similar videos, the works. Another baffling thing is - sometimes it works. _________________ Steeless. |

I don't either, and it's driving me nutty trying to figure it out. I've tried turning off every part of Norton Internet Security, etc. Don't help. Still, I've been able to use YouTube with all that running before. There doesn't seem to be a topic in YouTube Help that will work either. My computer isn't cluttered up and has sufficient memory and hard drive space, etc. If I don't remedy it soon, I'm going to revert to MS IE v6. _________________ Steeless. |

I don't claim to be an expert ..but..
I run this program every couple of weeks
http://www.ccleaner.com/
and it turns up sometimes as much as 200 meg of crud.
How many programs are running in the background at Startup ? Sometimes just one running program can cause these issues.
The issue is on your PC, not YouTube ,so something is a miss...
just a thought.
You may also try , if you haven't already, doing a system restore back to a point when you feel the issue was not there. Not all that long ago I downloaded some sort of a program which caused several things to really drag or STOP running. System restore cleared the errors.
Also maybe post this question for WIZ under the PC section... |

Thanks Tony. I'll try out that cleaner you mentioned, and the note to check the PC page. I right clicked in the area where the video screen should appear and noticed that there was an indicator that the video wasn't loaded, and, "About Adobe Flash Player." So, I messed around, uninstalled Flash Player 9, and reinstalled it. IT WORKS!! At least the past 3 tries. Let's hope that fixes it. By the way - Adobe Flash Player has to be uninstalled using their own uninstaller which is available from their downloads site. Hopefully it was just a glitch in the player. Thanks to all for the responses. _________________ Steeless. |

Ken, a week or so back I downloaded an update for Windows Media player 10..great update, I couldn't play anymore music ! Other music programs wouldn't even function, they wouldn't even load.
yep, back to ver 9 and all was/is well.
Sounds like you are well on your way back to the "viewing" adventure

Ken, if it messes up again, clean out all of your old cookies in IE.
Also, What Service (Browser) are you using? AOL sucks, and will usually only play one or two then it hangs on loading. When that happens, I simply use IE instead of AOL, and it's instant loading. But leaving old cookies in a system will really mess things up bad at times. So it's a good idea to keep them cleaned out, as well as your history. I use IE 7.0 and clean it out completely every night.

I'm back,
I thought I had figured it out and had it going again. Then it stopped. A few times I've went to YouTube and it has work, but now it stopped all together. I can't do YouTube anymore
As previously mentioned, when I follow a link to YouTube, it goes there. The page where the player should appear is there, along with everything you would normally see, including the title of the piece, the comments, other similar videos, etc. But, there is a white area that appears without the video player being there (same spot). When I right click on that area I get a dialog box that says "Movie Not Loaded..." which is grayed out, and below that is says "About Adobe Flash Player 9..."
Here's where it gets even more interesting - If you to go Billy Cooper's steel store web site, a nice song will play on the home page. That doesn't happen for me anymore, and when I right click on the area where the player appears at the very bottom, I get the same message as I noted in the above paragraph.
Also, if you go to the Jackson Steel Guitars web site, an automated thing loads and a nice steel tune plays. That doesn't happen anymore either, and the same message appears if I right click in the area where the animation and song would play.
So, it sure looks like something is wrong in my computer that won't let Adobe Flash Player 9 play. I'm about ready to get a pistol to the computer.
Tony - I checked out the CCleaner software and want to download it. My computer has an error screen that comes up and tells me "Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavilable or cannot be found. Please try again later." I've tried it two nights in a row, and it doesn't work. Maybe it's down?
Don - Noted. I've cleaned out my cookies, and my browser dumps all history every time I turn the computer off. I'm OK there. I'm using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. I kind of wish I still had v6, but I don't know how to revert back to it, or if I can.
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears, or eyes, as the case may be.
Thanks.
NOTE: bOb might want to move this over to the "Computers" section of the board. _________________ Steeless. |

Ken, it's sounding like your Adobe Player isn't working as it should.
Go to Adobe's site and re-install Flash Player.
Also, you might want to scan your system for malware, spyware, as well as virus's.
You can go to McAfee site, then click on Home/Home Office, and then go down to the free Scan.
I feel you have a corrupted file in the Adobe player.
Hope the above helps you.

I'm ready to get my "little buddy" out of his holster and put this thing out of it's misery.
Right now, I cannot download any programs either. I can't get any of those freeware utiliites, and Adobe Flash Player won't download either. I think something screwy is going on with the registry or in some of the security settings somewhere.
I'm going to try and download and reinstall MSIE 7 - If it will let me.
I have went through the uninstall and reinstall procedure for Flash Player 9 already, so I still had Adobe's uninstaller utility on my desk top. I used that and uninstalled it. Then, when I went to download the player, my computer won't let me. Everything my wife and I are trying to do on the net which requires Adobe Flash Player won't work.
I'm going to go for help over on the Computer board and see what happens.
Thanks to y'all for trying to help.
