Beginner's dilema

Im a new beginner with the following gear>a Galveston 6 string lap steel, a telecaster clone, a stratocaster clone and a Les Paul clone(all with great tone), and Ibanez 4 string Bass. For amps, i have and Ashdown 180 bass amp, and a used Crate G-60 with one of the early UK Celestion 12" speakers. Celestion said the speaker was easily worth the $50,00 i paid for the amp. HERE is my dilema!! As much as i like the guitars, the lap steel makes more sense. The Crate has reverb and two channels BUT i was just offered a Marshall Head and 4 X 10 cabinet for very few $(has 10 hrs on it). The Marshal has delay and reverb built in(therefore i dont need to use any stomp boxes. The lap steel is in C6 tuning. Eventually I would like to move up to a Pedal steel(prolly a starter) cause at my age(63) ill never gig much except for sit in and an occasional jam. Ive passed up some Peaveys, even though i sense they are the way to go. Im open to suggestion folks. Im sure ill get many avenues to consider. Maybe Ronnie Miller will sellme one of his. He recommends the Peavey Nashville 112, but im trying to save money. Thanks for the help, ya'll

I would use the Crate amp you already have and not worry about it. It will work fine for pedal steel also if you decide to get one.

I agree completely as far as lap steel goes. I know nothing about pedal guitars.

Thanks for the replies folks. I also added an On Stage Keyboard stand that places the lap steel at pedal steel height and the width and heigth are adjustable. If i go with the Crate amp, i gotta figure our how to set delay in the mix, as my lap steel instrument goes right into a DeArmand volume pedal. I guess we all look for tone dont we? Anyone know of any steel teacher in Northwest Montana. Merle Haggards in law moved to Idaho and I am having no luck in locating a teacher at all, much less music shops that handle lap or pedal steel!! Thanks again for your help! Rolling Eyes

I don't know about teachers up there. But there is alot of instructional material out depending on the tuning you're using. For low C6 hi to lo E-C-A-G-E-C contact Scotty's Music in St. Louis, Mo. For A6 and or high C6 there is Herb Remington as well as the Georgeboards site. The C6 version of that tuning is G-E-C-A-G-E-(C)-(A).

Well Jim, "northwest Montana" is a lot of territory...but there's a good player in Kalispell who's very knowledgable about steel guitar, Harry Sheppard-- he's a member of this Forum. Don't know if he teaches, but he might be a good place to start.

Thanks George, I have two DVD's but the 2007 Lap Steel Guitar 101 wont play, Im sticking with the Crate G60 60 watt amp, jes have to figure out how to add delay to the amp reverb, with a reverb/distortion pedal that Crate sold and the volume pedal also. Due to the lack of steelers up here, it looks like CD tracks, DVD and the three P's(patience, perseverance and practice)
