I just finished rebuilding my '61 Fender Champ.

New :
Power Transformer; 230v happy too,
New output transformer; the old one looked
VERY poorly when I took it off.

Added a Choke coil into the power section
like the earlier rev of this amp had,
till Fender got cheap or ran out.
They DEFINITELY should have left it in the design.

Then cleaned up the French techs mod of another coil/pot shunting low freqs. to ground.
Which REALLY helps for C6 lapsteel low notes.

Then added a small resistor and pot
and by bypass switch to the Negative Feedback Loop
This means I can increase or drastically DECREASE
(but not 0 out)the amount of NF to the power tube.
More squeal and grind when I want,
subtle sometimes, but it adds a touch of 'Marshal'
to the sound when I want.

Had Barry the jazz guitarists play it
and he loved it with the tele.

And I played Tele and Supro for Martin,
a blues harp player /singer/ band leader,
and he loved the amp. Wants to buy it now.
He may likely play it at the blues festival
that I am mixing this weekend.

No 660v shocks, no burnt out parts, each stage of work
came out as planned and worked RIGHT, 1st trial.

Next I scratch build a double size version sort of
like a madman's Princeton amp, crossed with a Vox AC-15.

And feeling good about the project too.
