just built a new pickup for my 8 string. 3" bar
magnet / 3700 turns .036 wire. am only getting 1000
ohms. does not sound great. any ideas?

Should have come out to just over 10K ohms. There must be a short somewhere.

When you say .036 wire ... do you mean ... AWG 36 gauge ... ???

Then 1000 ohms for 3700 turns sounds about right.
does not sound great.
Try another 1300 - 1800 turns ... and you'll like the sound alot better :mrgreen:

For a 3" blade ... using AWG 38 gauge ... and winding to 5000 to 5500 turns ...

I get in the neighborhood of 2000 to 2500 ohms (2.0 K to 2.5 K) ... :mrgreen:
