This came out of a 67-68 Super Imperial. Danny McKinney , the new owner of Standel told me without seeing the picture that it was a Stephens Tru-sonic. The frames look like Altec 418Bs. I saw a pic of a Stephens from a Standel for sale here on the forum and it looked a little different. Did Altec ever build speakers for Standel?
Thanks, Dave |

Yes, Altecs were common in Standels. I'd email that pic to Danny. I with you, that's an Altec frame if I ever seen one.
My favorite speaker is the 15" Altec 418B. I own 5 of them, and they are all original cones.
They are THE magic speaker in my Standel Custom 15, as well as my Fender Twin Reverb in Rick Johnson cabinets.

I've got a Standel Custom 24 from around 69-70.It sounded awesome when I first got it last year in a trade. It has since gone silent. It has a pair of Altec 417's in it. I was thinking of putting them on a new baffle board and trying to fit them into a Session 500 I have thats speaker less. |

It would probably sound great but I think a Session 500 could blow them out if you're not careful.
Any idea what happened to your Standel? Call Tim Maag in Orange County. 714-447-8364. He knows how to fix those epoxied pre amp modules. He has my SUper Imperial right now.

I'm not sure what happened with it. It started out as a distorted buzz around the note and went to complete silence. I'll give him a call and see if he can bring it back to life. Those Altecs sure sound good. I don't know what they are rated for.
Someone painted the mag covers black somewhere along the way. I thought of picking up an old twin and getting my Carlos on with them. Not much chance of me blowing them. I have a stock Session 500 too, and I never get it over 3 in my garage. My ZB sure sounds good though it. |

I sure wish I could find some of that blue sparkle grill cloth. Mine has a quarter size hole in it. If I can't I might go the HardTruckers route with it. |

It is a Trusonic. The Altec kit will work for it. Stevens worked for Altec and basically copied the design, from what I have read. I had one and used a kit from Great Plains and it worked great. |

He's got your Standel too? No wonder it's taking him so long! |
