I'm just getting into Dobro after playing pedal steel for several years. I see most of the big name dobro player use a stevens type of bar, but I'm more comfortable with a bullet nose. Is there a big advantage to the stevens steel for the jerry douglas style. and if so the what is the best bar out there I'm told a stevens wont last a long time.
So are there better choices for this style of bar.

Thanks
Wade

The one big advantage they have over bullet bars is that they'll give you the razor sharp pull-offs neccesary to execute those lightning fast runs players like Douglas and Ickes are known for.
Many players also feel they're easier to hold than a bullet bar, but that shouldn't be an issue for you since you're already used to bullet bars.

The Scheerhorn bar seems to be the favorite of many dobro players:

I've only been playing a couple of years, but I've tried a number of slides and I prefer the Shubb SP-2. It has what they call a bullet nose on both ends (It's just a blended edge). I find my pull-offs to be a little more controllable with it.

Ron Tipton makes custom dobro bars. I have a couple
that are rounded at one end and have the tradional sharp edge at the other. I believe they are around 50.00. His telephone # is 270 570 1730.
