I understand that Mike Auldridge uses this tuning. Also b0b. I've noticed that alot of the younger pedal C6 players use a C6 with the D on top. The Georgeboards site refers ot it as a jazz tuning. Can anyone give me any hints as to how that D 1st string functions. Or maybe refer me to some examples.

Billy Robinson uses a 10 string version of that tuning.
Here is a video of Billy explaining his tuning to members of the audience at the ISGC Hawaiian Gathering last year.

I won't be there this year. But it's becoming clear to me that I'm going to need to start attending some steel guitar events. I have been attending more general fare, such as music festivals and more recently the California Coast Music Camp. My day job is not as severely limiting as some. But it is demanding none the less.
I hope everybody who uses this tuning will, in fact chime in with a hint or two. I find that once I get the basic idea of something, I can extrapolate to the logical conclusions.
