These appeal to me in terms of aesthetics, as I LOVE cheesiness. Anyone know anything about them otherwise? http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/LM-BLUB.htm

Sonny Rhoads plays one of those.
He says he loves it.
I think he tunes open E or D.
He mainly plays major chords with little or no individual note picking.
The sound is not very distinctive, but seems full and clear.

I wonder how well that stays in tune - the tuners are mounted the wrong way around...

I'd be concerned about the tuners also.
It has been my experience that tuners mounted this way are prone to stripping their gears.
The pull of the strings is levering the horizontal shaft away from the vertical shaft and can cause the gears to slip. Particularly in inexpensive tuners which have play in the shaft housing.)
Better to reverse the tuner so the string pull is levering the gears together.

It also has an INPUT jack.
I wonder what sound THAT makes.
