Here is a list of used lap steel guitars at Elderly. The prices they charge are as much or more than a new lap steel guitar. Very pricey IMO.

FENDER DELUXE 8 LAP STEEL GUITAR (1954) $1,000.00

GIBSON BR-4 LAP STEEL GUITAR (1946-7) $700.00

GIBSON BR-9 LAP STEEL GUITAR (c.1950) $485.00

MASTERTONE SPECIAL MEHG LAP STEEL GUITAR (1941)$550.00

MASTERTONE SPECIAL MEHG LAP STEEL GUITAR AND AMPLIFIER (1941) $800.00

SLINGERLAND SONGSTER LAP STEEL GUITAR (late 1930's) $1,000.00

The great thing about this is that the market will determine the price. If they don't sell the price will come down.

I have a BR9, and at that price I'll throw in the matching amp.

Elderly and Gruhn are probably two of the highest-priced large dealers. Going to them to buy a guitar is kinda like going to Tiffany's to buy a watch. Neither specializes, nor seems to have a lot of knowledge, in the world of steel guitar. Good old instruments are pricey, though, as there's lots of people who buy them as an investment, and not to play.

All fields are the same...you can pay $15k for an old Chevey at the local dealer, or $50k at Barrett-Jackson.

I saw a BR-4 relisted for the third time. The second time it reached $680 and the seller held out with a higher reserve. The third time in ended in the $500s. The market is so unpredictable.
