Where's the BEST place for me and Keith to get one when we come to Dallas Jamboree? DH

Hey David - there's a Wendy's just up the road from the convention --- everything is big there, especially the waitresses ha !!!

I dont know about big...but you should shoot for a GOOD steak instead of a big one. Those huge things that are free if yu can eat the whole thing look nasty.

David, last year Al Talley took me to a steak house about 15 min's. from the show best steak I've ever wrapped my lips around.

Thom; What you need to enjoy a nice big steak is a comfy seat at the table. Well, you should know. You make the best seats in the business.

Keep Well, Buddy.

Arch.

David,

The Trail Dust is about 15 minutes from the Hotel and has one of the best steaks around Dallas for a pretty good price.

They also have a live band in the evenings.

Good call Dick. I forgot about the Trail Dust. They have been around a long time and are probably a little more inexpensive than the others I listed. The Grapevine Trail Dust is out of business now I think. It's a Love and War in Texas now I THINK. Have been to a Love and War though and it was a decent steak.

Forgot about Love and War and it's probably 8 minutes from the Hotel.

I didn't mention Del Frisco's or Ruth's Chris because David probably wants to be able to buy something at the show and get back home...lol

All those Dallas locations are too far away, especially for a visitor unfamiliar with the area. There are closer alternatives:
Of these, Saltgrass and Texas Land & Cattle are the most reasonably priced and are closer to serving what a non-Texan would consider a "Texas steak".

Tell you what, David. If we can coordinate a time (I'll be working at the Jamboree) when we're both available, I'll drive you and Keith to one of these restaurants. :D Contact me via e-mail and we'll work out the details.

Bobs and DelFriscos are good but VERY expensive, like in the $75-100 bucks per person range.

Ya'll are making me hungry!

you gotta go to Ranchman's in Ponder.

There are plenty of high end steakhouses in the DFW area, but if you want an authentic North Texas Steak experience the Ranchman's Cafe in Ponder is the ONLY place to go. Their pies are stellar also. If you go on a Fri. or Sat night you'll get to hear my old friend George Merritt wandering around the place taking requests (I used to sub in for him occasionally). I see they have a website now, call & ask for directions if you need 'em, you'll find they are very friendly. It's not any farther from the convention area than going to Dallas or Fort Worth, and the traffic will be a darn sight better! http://www.ranchman.com

Take it from a long time former resident, you don't want to miss this.

If you have the time, I would check out the old stockyards area in Fort Worth.
I had a wonderful steak there. It was a place with pictures of prize steers on the wall.
It isn't too far from Billy Bobs.

I think Erv is probably referring to "The Cattleman" and we were there last year (again) and I highly recommend it. Great ambiance , steaks , and those "special" fries....taste like chicken , don'tcha know. On the corner of Main and Exchange , right in the heart of the stockyards.

Larry,
That must be the place.
I love Fort Worth! :D

Yep, that would be Cattleman's alright. No fancy stuff, but mighty good eatin'. And when you're done, there are a bunch of places within walking distance to go listen to some great country music.
