1 From about the late 1950s, a version of "The Heel" other than June Carter's.
2 From the mid 1960s, a talking song by a guy in a phone booth calling his wife "Opal" or "Opel" to make up, but then telling her off. I remember "The years take their toll on us, Opal."
3 From the late 1960s, a novelty song that I heard on a jukebox in Sacramento. I think it was called "The Woodpecker Song." I remember something like, "He pecks all night in my backyard. How does he keep his pecker hard?" _________________ Steel crazy after all these years.

I believe #2 is Tommy Collins. I have a couple of his comedy bits that Russ Wever sent, including the one where he goes to Vegas and changes his name to "Cigarette Milner". |

"Opal...You Asked Me" is Tommy Collins. "Cigarette Milner is another good one from him.
Anybody ever heard his Easter sermon? |

I don't think we can post the Easter sermon here. I've got a tape of it that I pull out every year sometime around Easter. "I'm tired of so much s*** around here". |

Oh yeah...you're right about that. I wouldn't think of posting that one.

Opal you asked me is one of my favorite all time tunes. I first heard it years ago riding home from a job with my dad. We laughed till we couldn't stand it. |

I remember The Woodpecker Song! An artist called Billy Mitchell did it (and a lot of other artists as well). Very old...goes back to the '30's I believe. "...He pecked and pecked on my front door, pecked til he made his pecker sore - sore pecker, sore pecker. A real bad bird".
The "Heel" song by June has me stumped, though. I remember "The Mark Of A Heel", by Hank Thompson, but that's probably a different song. |

If Donny can't get this, then it is truly obscure with a capital "O". _________________ Artie McEwan |
