graphic card

Post by Pat Kelly »

My son wnats to upgrade the grapics card in a recently acquired PC. The machine has a pentium 4 3.2 ghz with 2 gb of ram.

the existing graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1050 which has 128mb on board.

My lad seems to think he needs something called a 8800GT and 512 on board.

Any advice on what suitable replacements without going over the top and with economy in mind.

The machine has 550 power supply which would seem adequate for most purposes.

Any responses appreciated

The 8600GT is a good replacement and won't cost near what the 8800GT costs that the "gamers must have". Within a year there will be a "bigger and better" video card and the 8800 will come down to "reasonable" price.

I assume the unit has a PCIeX16 slot for the video card which most high end Video cards require.

The power supply is more than sufficient for what you want.

You can check out the specs and the US price of the video cards at www.newegg.com
